![]() ![]() ![]() No matter what class, any hero gets to choose combat tree at level 4 or earlier. Two branches of Combat tree are essential for survival: Combat (physical defense) and Magic Resistance. For survival of the hero it is almost essential to choose “Combat tree”. ![]() While leveling, hero gets to choose up to 5 upgrade trees with 4 branches each. And speaking of stories, I found the undead and chaos campaigns/stories to be excellent, well worth reading the text popups. So, as in a typical RPG you develop and equip your main character(s), lead them through the story while battling enemies and completing quests. Later in the campaign/story a well-developed character can single-handedly (or grouped with other heroes) defeat the whole armies of creatures. Only during the first scenario in each campaign your heroes have to hide behind the troops to survive, so it plays as typical HOMM. Once I saw it, I actually started to like the game. The campaigns are played as typical RPG, you develop your hero(es) and lead him/her/them though the story. The game’s focus, oddly enough, is on heroes, not on armies, towns and kingdoms. This time it clicked, and I realized that I was playing it completely wrong way. I guess I expected it to be HOMM3.5.įast forward to 2019, I saw the game on GOG and decided to try it again. After couple of tries I just gave up on the game. I thought it was really bad decision to put heroes on the battleground and make them killable. Many things bothered me about HOMM4, graphics, animation no creature upgrades, etc. ![]() As many others I bought Heroes of Might and Magic 4 (HOMM4) at its release, and was quite disappointed. ![]()
